A Winter Wedding in a Blizzard at La Joya Dulce

The Blizzard That Showed Up on Wedding Day

This winter wedding at La Joya Dulce happened in the middle of a full Colorado blizzard — the snowiest day Steamboat Springs had seen in the previous two years. Snow was falling hard, wind moved across the property, and visibility shifted throughout the day. And yet, the ceremony stayed outside at the bride’s request. Guests bundled in, the couple committed to the plan, and the entire experience unfolded in real time inside the weather itself. Instead of disrupting the wedding, the storm became part of it.

Ashley decided she wanted an outdoor winter wedding, and she did not let the weather deter her.

Saying “I Do” Outside in Falling Snow

Our huge event pavilion (12,000 square feet) faces our ceremony meadow. We asked Ashley just before her ceremony whether to set up the chairs inside, or outside in the snowy meadow. “Outside,” she said. But the pavilion was still useful — the guests and wedding party stayed sheltered from the storm before taking their seats and their places at the altar.

Why This Blizzard Wedding Worked

La Joya Dulce is the only barn wedding venue in Steamboat Springs. We are certain that after braving the snow, Ashley and Gary’s guests appreciated the warmth of the barn for their wedding banquet.

Ashley and Gary decided to hold their ceremony outside. If you want a winter wedding on a ranch in Steamboat Springs, but you don’t want to sit or stand in the snow, the inside of the La Joya Dulce pavilion is the perfect spot. We can roll up three big doors at the end, so guests can stay dry and still enjoy the view.
